Port Chaplain & Diaconal Worker

For seafarers, spending time in port can sometimes feel lonely. Months away from home, long working days and limited contact with family and friends. At The Bridge, we therefore believe it is important to offer personal attention and someone to talk to.

Our Port Chaplain, Helene Perfors, is available on call for seafarers who need a listening ear, personal support or simply someone to talk to. She is there for every seafarer, regardless of background, nationality or faith.

Our Diaconal Worker, Peter van Wijk, actively reaches out to seafarers. He regularly makes crew visits, meeting seafarers on board their ships in the port. A personal conversation, showing genuine interest and simply asking how someone is doing can mean a great deal when you are far from home.

In their own ways, Helene and Peter provide an important connection between seafarers, their ships and The Bridge.

Because sometimes, caring starts with something very simple: being there for someone.

Loved this place. Very kind souls run this place.
